  • M2 Set to ride the digital video wave (Page 8) - M2 article about how the M2 would incorporate DVD technology, it goes on to mention that also Sony and Philips also have DVD machines in the pipeline (Note - Can't find any info on a planned/in the works CD-I DVD). Lastly, also mentions about the Sega/M2 rumour.
  • Ultimate MK3 Coming to 3DO (Page 12) - Article about how Ultimate MK3 is coming to the 3DO, and how it was meant to be reviewed but 3DO couldn't get a copy to them in time. However it will be on the Saturn too..but not Playstation. Note - It appears on the front cover as if it would be reviewed.

Return Fire - Maps O' Death Studio 3DO Ed Lomas 1 65 80%
  • Psychic Detective

A novel game (That has the bonus of being a sickening adult trip from start to finish) That is let down by initially confusing gameplay that ends....FAR TOO SOON

  • Captain Quazar

The most fun the 3DO has had in at least a year. Polish those teeth and prepare to wear a huge cheesy smile!

  • Doom

Though it's still Doom, it's a real duffer of a conversion. Jerky graphics and a small playing window make it annoying, but still Doom...Just.

  • Battlesport

The whole game's spent chasing after the little ball while being hit from the side by the computer opponent, knocking you over the place. With some practice the controls can be mastered but it doesn't really help the game much as it becomes boring very quickly.

  • Return Fire - Maps O' Death

The problem here is that we're reviewing Maps o Death - The extra level upgrade - not the actual game. The result is that if you've got Return Fire yet, you should get it soon, as its one of the best games ever.

Letters

  • is M2 a new machine or add on? (Page 96) - Letter asking if it will be a standalone system or add on.
  • Dear CVG,

After owning an Amiga for three years I have now decided to invest in a new console. I have been heavily considering a 3D0, especially now since the price has been slashed by £100. i have only recently found out about the M2 and I had read that it was an upgrade for the 3D0, yet your magazine seemed to be saying that the M2 was a completely new games machine. Please can you clear this up for me?

Garry Crowden, Wigan.

  • CVG: Sorry about the confusion Garry, but this M2 business really isn't so complicat-

ed. Matsushita are releasing the M2 as both a standalone system, and an upgrade for the existing 3DO - though we doubt there's going to be much of a price difference.

Adverts

Retail

  • Special Reserve - Massive retail list with basically all platforms, 3DO section has about 12 games, and a FZ10 for £215.99 with 5 games or a Goldstar with 1 game for £189.99 (Page 35)
  • Torc - Small retail advert with just names of consoles (presumably for sale), only item priced is actually a 3DO FZ-10 for £99 (Page 39)
  • Trico Consoles - Small retail advert that more focuses on a list of Saturn games, but mentions they sell 3DO along with other consoles (Page 39)
  • Gameplay - Full page ad with lots of listings, 3DO section has about 10 games (Page 99)

Other 3DO mentions

  • Page 6 - In the staff list section a "Phil Kipling and Alex Green at Panasonic and 3DO respectively" get a special thanks.
  • Page 30-31 - Not a mention, but another show of laziness from the writers. Review is for D on the Saturn, it states a Playstation version planned (Which didn't happen), but no mention of a 3DO version available or within the article.
  • Page 52-53 - Foes of Ali Saturn Review - Again, another example of lazy editing from the CVG crew, Its a Saturn review, and "other versions available are PSX and Saturn" I think this was originally meant to be a 3DO review, as it states this on the contents page.
  • Page 88 - Gex Saturn Preview - Mention of a 3DO version available.
  • Page 98 - Next Month - Mention of Ultimate MK3, how they are reviewing the Saturn version, with hopefully the 3DO version, as well as a competition to give away copies of the 3DO version.
