News

  • TNPD Sales Report - Part of a bigger article on Saturn and Playstation sales in the UK, there is a small mention of 3DO regarding US Sales, that TNPD reported 3DO had a 1% market share of the 32 bit market in December 1995, with Playstation having 62% and Saturn 27%. Also states Jaguar had 0% (Page 8)
  • Divorce absolute for Sega and M2 - 2 page article that talks have broken down between Sega and Panasonic. The report states that Sega took a prototype to analyst earlier in 1996 giving weight to speculation of the partnership (Both companies denied). The report continues that there were 2 reasons the agreement collapsed, the 1st being Sega wanted to be the sole brand on the M2 (This would of gone against Panasonic's strategy of sub licensing to other hardware partners) and 2nd, even though Sega engineers were impressed, they werent blown away. However, development on software is full steam ahead, even though some developers at Studio 3DO found the M2 tough to deal with in terms of maximizing performance, but one internal developer had actually developed a 3D engine specifically for the M2, this engine was actually used for a driving game (Presumley IMSA) with the developer stating "You've got to see it to believe it, It's as big a leap in graphics performance from the 32bit games as you could imagine. All I can say about M2 is that, for once, a machine may actually live up to its hype". (Pages 12-13)
  • 3DO and Cirrus Logic Team Up - Small article on how the 2 companies have teamed up to produce a 3D accelerator for PC (Page 13)
  • Panasonic Signs Konami - Small article on a deal that Konami signed with Panasonic to use the M2 in arcade development. The rumored first game is meant to be a beat em up, which will appear later in 1996, there are estimates to ship between 5,000 and 10,000 units globally, with Konami also estimating to bring on $20m in revenue a year. It also mentions that Capcom have also had talks with Panasonic as they prepare for a late 1996 console launch (Page 13)

Features

  • Konami Interview - 5 page feature interviewing Nagata Akihiki, the country's general manager at the time. 3DO is only mentioned once, when asked about what 32 Bit machine they produce more for, Mr Akihiki responds that it could be for Playstation, Saturn or 3DO first, there is no specific rule, but hardware sales is very important to them, and due to that, they will stop producing for one of the machines (without mentioning which - Note - Personally I think they had already stopped on the 3DO in 1995, so presuming the Saturn) (Pages 50-54)
