Charts

  • Most Wanted - Two games appear on the top 5 "Most Wanted", this includes Total Eclipse and Megarace (strangely Rise of the Robots appears at No 2!) (Page 19)

Feature

  • Argonaut Software - 6 page article with the UK based developer, It mentions they are working on 2 3DO projects, Creature Shock and Primeval. It mentions they arent "fans of the 3DO" and their 3DO programmer, Mark Johnston states "‘It's good at texture-mapping, but it's not as fast as а DX2 PC for calculating polygons. The ARM chip (CPU) is slowed down by the lack of a disk cache and the machine's pretty hopeless at creating some of the more traditional special effects players are used to,' he adds. 'Because it's only got a single screen like a PC, effects like multi-layered parallax scrolling are virtually impossible to get running ina single frame. In this kind of game the SNES wipes the floor with it, which is a bit sad when you consider the price difference.", he then adds alittle positivity! "I think the best aspect of the 3DO is probably its operating system, which is very easy to use" but then adds that as its Mac based, it becomes very expensive. They also speak about the unreleased game Primeval, on how the publisher Sony, wanted Dinosaurs, but in the end asked to take them out. The game would of been a first person action game where you control a humanoid like alien (Page 24-29)
  • 3DO Release List - 3 Games appear, all US based: Shadowcaster (Jan), Out of This World (Feb) and Battle Chess (Feb) (Page 35)
  • Further Reading - Game Zone - Small article from the SNES magazine that says it looks at the new machines including the 3DO (Page 80)

Preview

  • Escape From Monster Manor - Half page preview - Page 23

Reviews

Game Title Publisher Reviewer Pages Pg No(s) Rating
Mad Dog McCree American Laser Games N/A 1 69 3
Stellar 7 Dynamix N/A 2 70-71 5
  • Crash N Burn - ‘Don't buy Mad Dog McCree' seems the logical conclusion. The CinePak video quality is tolerable but once the trickier bits are reached, you'll be yanking your hair out in big clumps and shouting at the screen.
  • Stellar 7 - It's a shame that the first ЗОО software is such a mixed bunch, but sadly Stellar 7 is an easily forgettable experience.

Letters

  • US Spec Question - Letter asking about the US Specs (Visual) and is put off by Edge No 3 which states Crash N Burn keeps crashing, Edge write back says that its only occasionally and that imported games all have to be NTSC compatible TVs or it will be letterbox but nothing to stop the UK version to be full screen (Page 95)

Adverts

Publishers

  • Argonaut Software - Half page advert looking for 3DO Programmers (Page 87)

Retail

  • Fun House - Small ad stating it sells 3DO (Page 96)
