3DO Overview
Microcabin Software appeared on the original Developer list in 1993.
Overview
MicroCabin (マイクロキャビン) is a Japanese software company. It was founded by Naoto Ōyachi on November 27, 1981 in Yokkaichi, Mie prefecture, initially as a shop selling computer equipment. A year later it was incorporated and began producing video games.
Primarily known as a developer of games for Japanese computers (PC-88, MSX, and others), the company later became better known to the Western audience thanks to its console games (such as Riglord Saga). Xak is usually considered Micro Cabin's flagship series; later the company distanced itself from the action RPG style and moved on to develop turn-based RPGs (of which Illusion City is thought to be the highest achievement), as well as publishing games developed by other companies.
Microcabin abandoned video game production and entered pachinko slot machine business in 2000. On May 9, 2008 it was acquired by AQ Interactive. In 2011 it became the daughter company of Fields Corporation, which specialized in pachinko machines.
History
The company was founded by founder Naoto Oyachi as a computer shop and school called "Micro Cabin Yokkaichi" on November 27, 1981, and was incorporated as a corporation (with capital of 10 million yen) in November of the following year.
From the 1980s to the early 1990s , the company developed games for personal computers . In the 1980s, it focused on adventure games such as " Harry Fox: Snow Demon King " . In the 1990s, it focused on role-playing games such as the " Circle " series and " Phantom City " . From the late 1990s, it also developed games for home game consoles , releasing the " Sword and Sorcery " and " Marionette Company " series. As of February 1999, the company's capital was 187,930,000 yen [2] .
Due to the high development costs, the company decided not to enter the Super Nintendo market and instead continued to develop games for personal computers, sided with the Sega Saturn for the next generation of game consoles, and became involved in game development as a developer rather than a distributor. As a result of these management decisions, the company's name recognition and sales declined. After being commissioned by Matsushita Electric Industrial to develop software for LCD control boards for pachinko, the company's main focus in the 2000s has been on developing LCD display software for pachinko machines. [1] In February 2001, the company increased its capital to 227.93 million yen . [3]
On May 9, 2008 , it became a wholly owned subsidiary of AQ Interactive , and on January 14, 2011, 85% of the shares were transferred to Fields (now Tsuburaya Fields Holdings ), after which the remaining shares were also transferred, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Tsuburaya Fields Holdings . [4] On December 1, 2014, the company reduced its capital to 10 million yen .
