Success Corporation (株式会社サクセス, Kabushiki gaisha Sakusesu) is a Japanese video game and online game developer and publisher, based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and founded on 7 June 1978. They are best known for their Cotton series of shooter games, Zoo Keeper and others.
History
- June 1978 - Success Achievement Tokyo Ltd. was established. The founder, Takamori Yoshinari, had been selling various products as a salesman until then, but started a new business selling "Success Motivation Institute", a self-development material for entrepreneurs. After pitching this to President Shiina of Sword , Yoshinari became interested in computer programming and the computer game industry.
- January 1980 - Started working as a gaming machine operator
- February 1981 - Company name changed to Success Ltd.
- January 1982 - Started in-house development of game software
- March 1982 - Reorganized as Success Co., Ltd.
- 1983 - Release of debut game "PLAY BALL" (distributed by Copac). Although it barely sold and the circuit boards piled up, he loaded the program for his next game, " Othello ," and sold out the boards.
- 1987 - "Tonton" developed (sold by Taiyo Automatic Machines). It is said to be the first storefront game machine (a so-called "dagashi-ya game machine") to be equipped with a video display terminal.
- 1991 - Arcade version of "Cotton" released (Sega). It became Success's biggest hit.
- 1994 - Developed "Shanghai: The Great Wall" (published by Sunsoft). It was unprecedented to achieve simultaneous development on nine platforms: arcade, Super Famicom, Saturn, PS, PC-FX, 3DO, FM Towns, PC-98, and X68000.
- 1995 - Development of " Game Master " (Sold by Sunsoft). A bargain version that includes four games in one package: Shogi, Renju, Mahjong, and Brace. However, the idea that "it would be even better if I could buy one software for 1/4 the price" led to the later " Simple1500 series ."
- 1998 - The company brought a plan for a "cheap version of home video games" to D3 Publisher , and launched the "Simple 1500 series". Later, the company also launched the " Super Lite 1500 " series, which was sold by Success itself.
- March 2000 - J-PHONE service launched. Since then, a large number of games have been released for feature phones, exceeding 100 games per year at the peak.
- October 2001 - Online game portal "GAMESPACE24" service launched
- 2003 - Release of the fighting game "UNO." The first cross-platform game in the mobile phone game industry, compatible with cross-platform play on three mobile phone carriers.
- 2009 - Ranked 29th in "Top 50 Developers 2009"
- 2011 - Release of smartphone game " Touch Detective: Mushroom Cultivation Kit " (developed by Beeworks). It became a huge hit, surpassing the original " Touch Detective: Rina Ozawa " series, and was developed independently as the "Mushroom Cultivation Kit" series.
- 2023 - CEO Takamori Yoshinari participated in the 2023 Abu Dhabi World Veterans Judo Championships and won the 70+ 81kg category. To commemorate this, the company held a sale on its game titles . [3]
