Overview
T&E Soft Incorporated (株式会社ティーアンドイーソフト, Kabushiki-Gaisha Tīandoīsofuto) was a Japanese-based video game developer founded in 1982. Although they have made games with a wide variety of genres, they are primarily known for their action role-playing, golf and puzzle video games.
The original company exists today under the name of Daikokuya Global Holding Co., Ltd but is not currently engaged in game development. A company named Deep Co., Ltd. acquired T&E Soft's trademark rights on April 22, 2005, to continue game development which would go on until January 2013.
History
T&E SOFT (former company)
The company name was derived from the names of the founders, older brother Toshiro Yokoyama and younger brother Eiji Yokoyama , but later changed to an abbreviation of "Try & Exciting" and finally to "Technology & Entertainment."
In 1982 , they started out by submitting and publishing game program lists for NEC's PC-6001 series of personal computers in Kogyosha's personal computer magazine I/O, and selling the games in packages. In 1983 , they stopped publishing their program lists in I / O magazine and began to develop a wide range of machines other than the PC-6001, with their February release of 3D Golf Simulation becoming a hit. Since then, they have been a popular game software house, making a name for themselves with the Star Arthur Legend series, the Hydlide series , and DAIVA for domestically produced 8-bit personal computers .
In the era of 16-bit PCs , the golf game " Harukanaru Augusta ", which succeeded "3D Golf Simulation", was released in November 1989 ( Heisei 1) , and this series became the flagship work. It used the 3D display system "POLYSYS", and at the time of its announcement, it was declared that this system would "make a living for 10 years". In October 1990 (Heisei 2), the company rescued and merged with the struggling Crystal Soft (XTALSOFT), and established the T&E SOFT Osaka Development Department .
In March 1986, the company entered the home video game market with the development of "Hydlide Special" for the Family Computer, released by Toshiba EMI (now Universal Music Japan ). In December 1990, the company entered the consumer market with its own brand sales of the Game Boy software " Earth Liberation Army The Earth ." After the release of the Super Famicom software "NEW 3D GOLF SIMULATION 1: Harukanaru Augusta " in April 1991 , which became a smash hit, the company gradually shifted its activities from personal computers to home video game consoles.
In 1997 , the company ran into financial difficulties, and Masashi Miyamoto, the owner of Square (now Square Enix Holdings ), an old friend of the Yokoyama brothers , provided financial assistance and became the largest shareholder. Later, Square itself also invested in the company, and the two became sister companies.
On January 15 , 2001 , T&E Soft Co., Ltd. entered into a capital and business alliance with Disney , and on May 1 , 2002, it became D-Wonderland Co., Ltd. The company is no longer engaged in game development, but the former content production department was spun off into an independent company, Deep Co., Ltd. , which acquired the trademark rights to T&E Soft on April 22, 2005 , and continued game development.
On March 4 , 2019 , D4 Enterprise announced that it had acquired the intellectual property rights to T&E Soft game content that was owned by Daikokuya Global Holdings Co., Ltd.
T&E SOFT (new company)
Digital Golf Co., Ltd. , which was established in January 2003 by Toshiro Yokoyama , the older brother of the Yokoyama brothers , absorbed Deep Co., Ltd. on January 1 , 2006 , and established a branch office in Nagoya. Digital Golf Co., Ltd. officially developed games under the brand name T&E Soft .
On January 21 , 2008, the development division of the Nagoya branch was spun off as T&E Soft Co., Ltd. , and on January 30, Games Arena , a subsidiary of Dwango Co., Ltd. , announced that it would acquire all of T&E Soft Co., Ltd. 's outstanding shares, making it a subsidiary of Games Arena (a sub-subsidiary of Dwango) .
In August 2010 , Games Arena subsidiary Chunsoft (now Spike Chunsoft ) opened its Nagoya office at T&E Soft's location . In addition, staff such as Tokihiro Naito and Yuichi Mizobe joined Chunsoft (currently Spike Chunsoft's Third Development Group as of April 2012). In 2016, Locobit was established with some of the staff as core members (CEO: Hisazumi Hirose, Director: Yuichi Mizobe), and it works as a development subcontractor for Spike Chunsoft.
