3DO Overview
Warp and its founder Jenji Lino, were big supporters of the 3DO. He stated once that it was 3DO's open and friendliness over the likes of Sony and Sega that made them choose the machine. They also had the most documented M2 game with D2. It was rumoured when the M2 was cancelled, Kenji went mad and destroyed all the PC's with the game on. They were also legarary for announcing D on the Saturn on the PlayStation Booth (Morphing the logo between one to the other)
Overview
Warp Inc. was a former Japanese video game development company. It was founded by game creator Kenji Iino . It is known for developing interactive cinemas such as "D's Table" and "Enemy Zero", and the sound-only game "Real Sound ~Wind Regret~ " without any video.
History
In 1989, Kenji Iino and some friends founded EIM LLC, which mainly developed Famicom games. EIM was doing well, but as the number of games they produced increased to sequels, ports, and character games , Iino began to have doubts about his own game development and disbanded EIM.
In order to create original games that EIM could not produce, Iino established Warp Corporation in Ebisu , Shibuya Ward in 1994 and began developing games for the 3DO . The style of the games was similar to that of indie games, and Iino described Warp's small-scale development style as "a company like a band".
At the PlayStation Expo '96 ( Tokyo International Exhibition Center ) held on March 27-28 , 1996 , Warp exhibited its new title, Enemy Zero. The company had a large booth, second only to that of Sony Computer Entertainment , the organizer of the event, and prepared several demo stations for Enemy Zero, which ran on actual PlayStation consoles . On the first day of the event, at the production presentation held at the Warp booth, Iino announced on stage that "Enemy Zero's release on PlayStation will be postponed indefinitely, and the supply destination will be changed to Sega Enterprises ' Sega Saturn " (see Kenji Iino #Enemy Zero Incident ). In effect, this was a sudden transfer to a competing platform, but Warp did not withdraw from the event even after the announcement, so it was an unprecedented event that event visitors were able to try out a title on PlayStation that would not be released on PlayStation .
In 1997 , the company moved to Kita-Aoyama in Minato Ward . The office was on the fourth floor, but the building itself contained a Japanese garden with bamboo and lion-shaped decorations , surprising visitors.
In 1998 , Warp published a company guidebook and sold it in bookstores. Photographer Anju photographed 21 employees of Warp, and the book was compiled in the form of interviews with them about their work, their backgrounds before joining the company, their feelings about the company, etc.
In 2000 , the company changed its name to Superwarp Inc. , withdrew from the consumer game industry, and changed its main business to network services. The following year, it changed its name to From Yellow to Orange Inc.
Company name and logo
The company name, " Warp ," reflects the company's desire to reach out directly to the people who play its games.
The logo resembles a four-panel comic strip, mimicking the flow of a television screen.
- W - Television broadcast ended and color bars were displayed.
- A - The color bars disappeared and a static storm appeared.
- R - Started playing video games.
- P. - I was bored so I turned off the TV.
The logo was originally commissioned to be designed by Kazuo Umezu, but when this was not possible, it was created by Iino and an in-house designer .
